Bread Making Recipe

Rebecca Myers-Pollock

Bread making is a popular food preparation work found in many of the classroom environments at Fiore! Parents are often curious to learn more about the recipe in order to try it out at home. Each classroom may have a slightly different way of making bread, but below you will find one of the more popular recipes shared by one of our toddler guides! Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS

1/2 cup of warm water

1 tsp active yeast

1 tsp sugar

1 Tbsp rolled oats

1 Tbsp melted butter

1/2 tsp salt

1 cup flour

Olive oil to grease the pan

TOOLS

small pitchers, bowls, or measuring tools for pre-measured ingredients*

mixing bowl

mixing spoon

small loaf pan

*TIP: Pre-measure the ingredients and have them out in bowls or small pitchers for your child to pour into the larger mixing bowl.

DIRECTIONS

1. Pour the warm water into a mixing bowl.

2. Add the yeast to the warm water and wait for it to bubble and increase in size.

NOTE: Another option is to place the warm water and yeast into a small bowl or pitcher ahead of time to allow the rise to complete before beginning the recipe with your child.

3. Add in the remaining ingredients and combine. If the dough seems too wet, add small amounts of flour until it reaches a more dough-like consistency.

4. On a lightly floured work surface, knead the dough for at least one minute.

5. Grease your small bread pan.

6. Place the dough in the pan and let it rest, covered with a towel in a warm spot, for at least 20 minutes.

7. Remove the towel and bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
