Fiore Club Day
Fiore Club came about as a way for the elementary students to have the opportunity to spend casual time with their friends after school. Students have the opportunity to play games, create art, cook, explore the outdoors, work on projects, or just hang out with their peers.
Logic, Reasoning, & Math
Let’s continue to work together to discover the hidden magic in math! With more fun projects, problem-solving games and real-word applications, the students will uncover fascinating patterns and logic that is the foundation of everyday experience, while at the same time reviewing math concepts at all levels through practical application.
Debate & Public Speaking
Money, Stocks, & Investments
Art Appreciation
(New this year!) Learn the art of persuasion! Students will learn how to create logical arguments and refute other viewpoints with facts, knowledge and integrity. Have fun and be challenged to actively listen to both sides of an argument, search for evidence to support your points, and role-play to uphold opinions that you may not agree with personally. This is a place to practice articulating ideas in a way that they will be taken seriously, and build skills to think on your feet!
(New this year!)- Explore the basics of money and finance, the power of saving, and the risk of investment as a participant in this exciting interest group! The students will learn how stocks work, how to diversify a portfolio, and set some long-term financial goals, as they experiment with financial planning and play the virtual stock market.
(New this year!)- Students joining this five-part series will explore and reflect on western art and its cultural impact. Learn how humans through the ages have expressed their experiences through a variety of art forms, and dig deeply to discover the work of prominent artists
Sewing
Students begin wherever they are with basic sewing, and advance at their own pace with more advanced techniques during this workshop. Learn how to use a sewing machine, take measurements, lay out and cut fabric, read patterns, finish seams, and more. Possible projects include cloth bags and napkins, as well as special projects for gifts, personal use, and inventory items for Hawthorn's microeconomy! We also hope to be able to support the spring drama production with our sewing talents, home-made costumes and prop designs.
Yoga has shown to enhance focus, concentration, comprehension and memory. The poses help to improve physical fitness by improving posture, balance, coordination, and body awareness. Yoga can also help to create an atmosphere of confidence, enthusiasm and non-competitiveness where everyone can succeed. It provides opportunities for reflection, patience and insight, reducing impulsivity and supporting social and emotional learning. Dancing is a fantastic outlet for people of all ages and abilities! It increases coordination, muscle tone, and helps improve one’s mood. Dancing is a great way to improve cardiovascular fitness and endurance as it requires both physical movement and muscle strength.
